Colleen and Ryan were married at one of my very favorite Colorado venues … Planet Bluegrass! I was wild with excitement when I heard that Colleen had found me through my high school best friend in Atlanta! Based on their venue and our connection, I knew this would be good! I was not at all disappointed! This day was a photographer’s dream and I couldn’t have been happier to be part of it.

Colleen and Ryan met me on a warm June day just before leaving for a bluegrass festival in Telluride and we had so much to talk about. Seven months later we met again for a frigid winter engagement session. The temperature hovered around 14 degrees, but you wouldn’t know it from their photos. They were great sports and down for all of my suggestions despite their cold fingers and toes.

The wedding day was colorful and joyful. We started the day trying to work around the rain, but soon enough the skies parted and we were able to do their first look and family formals by the St Vrain river. As we strolled through the venue we shared stories of the music we’d seen over the years.

The ceremony was set against the river and the beautiful red rock that is one of many things that is special to the town of Lyons. Everything about it was personal and emotional. Friends and family exchanged signs of peace and shed tears of joy.

Following the ceremony we got up on stage to take in the day and get some photos on the notorious couch. Ryan brought his guitar along and enjoyed his rock start moment with his best man.

Three Tomatoes put on an amazing dinner and fueled the guests before the party got started on the dance floor with the help from the talented Colorado wedding band The Fever. In between songs guests walked down the path to the Sweet Cow truck for an energy boost.

Colleen and Ryan wanted a venue that meant something to them and that they could return to over the years. I look forward to returning to and hopefully catching up with them for some wedding day reminiscing! Congratulations to Colleen and Ryan!

Thank you to Carly of Milk Glass Productions for putting together an evening to remember forever and to Amy from Planet Bluegrass for being a welcoming and very helpful host to the entire vendor team. Once again Planet Bluegrass did not disappoint and, whether wedding or festival, I already can’t wait to get back for more magic!
